Nuclear Jellyfish by Tim Dorsey

Nuclear Jellyfish by Tim Dorsey

After all the philosophy books lately I felt it was time to get back to a fiction novel.  This book is exactly that, a wild story of two men driving all over Florida appreciating the run down, timeless aspects of the states past while also acting as citizens arrest style vigilantes amidst the mayhem of coin dealers turned diamond transporters, robbers running amuck, and undercover agents.  It’s a mini vacation to Florida with an absolute maniac as your tour guide.

This story, and the author’s writing style, is like a Quentin Tarantino movie in terms of the weirdness.  Throw in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and you get a better idea of the two main characters, their misadventures, and the insanity of their conversations.  Then add on a touch of Dexter for good measure and to make it a murder quasi-mystery story.

To write an entire book would be hard enough, but to do one like this in which the author conjures up some of the more obscure dialogues, characters and plot lines I’ve come across – that’s a whole other task.  A nice reprieve from South Dakota and a mental trip to somewhere with ocean breezes and palm trees.
